August 2015- Welcome back! This week Team Independence organized their Writer's Notebooks to house their writings and their Word Collections. The students are encouraged to "collect" words that they do not know and add it to their word collections. See below for more information. The students received their first month's bingo card full of prompts to help them with ideas for writing. The enthusiasm is contagious! Many students have already received a BINGO with their creative writings!
Word Collection
Wordsworth Award
Vocabulary and word building is a life-long skill. We hear and see new words everyday, but often we do not take the opportunity to "collect" them.
The students in Team Independence are encouraged to collect new words and their meanings in the Word Collection. This is part of the Writer's Notebook in English. As teachers, we want our students to understand that vocabulary is not isolated to one subject. We encourage them to use their new words throughout the day. A student can add words that he or she find in a SSR books, math class, science class, etc. |
The Wordworth Award will be given to the student who has gathered and defined the most words this school year. Can you out collect last year's class? The winner had 525 words!
